Leicester City have been hit with a string of bad news.
“Leicester City could face harsh disciplinary action from the Premier League (PL) next season, according to the Telegraph, a British media outlet. The Foxes, who reported financial losses last season, could face a points deduction of between six and 15 points.”
On the same day, another English media outlet, Football League World, made similar comments. “Leicester City could be docked up to 15 points next season for breaching the PL Revenue and Sustainability Rules (PSR), which could disrupt the league's operations,” it said, adding, “Financial concerns have forced the Foxes to rethink their summer transfer spending plans and they may need to raise additional funds to comply.”
The PSR rules were established to protect the PL's Financial Fair Play (FFP), which states that a club cannot lose more than £150 million ($183.5 billion) over three seasons and can only lose up to £35 million ($61.1 billion) per season.
In a system that is supposed to level the playing field and ensure the sustainable development of clubs, Leicester City is in violation of the rules. It's an issue that every club in the league is watching closely, with Everton (-8 points) and Nottingham Forest (-4 points) both suffering points deductions last season due to the rule.
And their problems don't end there. After finishing 18th last season and being 토토 relegated to the Championship, Leicester City hired Enzo Maresca with the clear motivation of returning to the PL within a season.
After signing a three-year contract with the club, Maresca has been successful in his mission, leading Leicester City to the top of the Championship.
However, his performances have attracted interest from some of Europe's top clubs. Chelsea, who have been struggling to find their next manager after sacking Mauricio Pochettino, have been particularly keen on Maresca.
Maresca is also enjoying the interest from Chelsea. “Chelsea are in talks to appoint Leicester City boss Maresca as Pochettino's successor,” the BBC reported on Aug. 28, adding that Maresca has informed his club that he wants to sign for the Blues.”
It's been a difficult time for Leicester City, who are back in the PL this season, but they could be facing the worst possible situation: a start without a manager and without points.
